Making his first NFL start in relief of D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai had a banner day, piling up 198 yards of offense and dominating Chicago's backfield in the Bears' 47-42 victory over the Bengals. The seventh-round rookie carried 26 times for 176 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and produced 106 yards after contact.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. He's been battling this groin issue for a few weeks now. It either got worse over the last week, or the team finally decided to get him some rest. We'll see if he makes it back for Week 10. RB Roschon Johnson (back) is also out for this Sunday, leaving Kyle Monangai and Travis Homer as the healthy RB on the active roster. RB Brittain Brown is on the practice squad. Homer doesn't have a touch on offense this season, while Monangai's role has been growing in recent weeks. The rookie is a good bet to handle most of the backfield work in this matchup against Cincinnati's 32nd-ranked RB defense.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) missed his second straight practice on Thursday. That's a downgrade from last week, when he missed Wednesday but returned to a limited practice on Thursday. We'll see if Swift gets on the field tomorrow, ahead of Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. His absence in that one would leave rookie RB Kyle Monangai in a big role. RB Roschon Johnson (back) has remained sidelined this week after missing last Sunday's game.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) is listed as questionable to play vs. the Ravens this weekend. He got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. Swift was in a similar boat last week and ended up playing his usual role vs. the Saints, racking up 138 yards and a score. We’re expecting Swift to be fine for the Ravens game but will get Chicago’s inactives around 11:30 am ET on Sunday. RB Roschon Johnson (back) has been ruled out, which would leave Kyle Monangai as the clear lead back if Swift were to miss this one.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) did not practice on Wednesday. He played through this issue last week, so we're expecting him to be ready for Sunday's game vs. the Ravens. But his status bears monitoring over the next few days. RB Kyle Monangai would be in for a big workload if Swift was unable to play this weekend.

Bears rookie RB Kyle Monangai excelled as the No. 2 RB against the Saints. He went 13-81-1 on the ground and 2-13-0 through the air. Starting RB D’Andre Swift went 19-124-1 on the ground and 1-14-0 through the air. With HC Ben Johnson’s history of using two backs in Detroit, Monangai could become the David Montgomery to Swift’s Jahmyr Gibbs in terms of usage (though neither is as talented as their Lions’ counterparts).

Bears RB D'Andre Swift (groin) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Saints. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and limited again in Friday’s practice. We’ll look for further updates on Swift and get Chicago’s inactives around 11:30 am ET on Sunday. His absence would leave rookie Kyle Monangai as the Bears’ likely lead back.

Update: HC Ben Johnson said he's "hopeful" that Swift will be able to play vs. the Saints. Swift said that he'll play, per ESPN's Courtney Cronin, adding that the limited practices were just maintenance.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift was added to the injury report and limited in practice on Thursday with a groin issue. He played through hip and quad injuries earlier this season, although it's unclear if this is related. We'll look for further updates on Swift and see if he gets back on the practice field tomorrow. His absence vs. the Saints this weekend would leave rookie Kyle Monangai as the likely lead back, with RB Roschon Johnson also picking up more work.

Bears RB D'Andre Swift racked up 108 yards on 14 carries in Monday night's win over the Commanders. Washington's defense entered the night fifth-best in rush DVOA and adjusted fantasy points allowed to RBs, which made Swift's 7.7 yards per carry especially notable. Rookie Kyle Monangai followed with a 5-19 rushing line, while Roschon Johnson claimed the other RB carry (for 6 yards). QB Caleb Williams produced the team's only rushing score, from a yard out. Swift added a 55-yard receiving TD to drive a 2-67-1 receiving line on three targets.

Bears RB D’Andre Swift (hip) is questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Raiders after a limited week of practice. He played his usual role despite a questionable listing last week, although that was with a quad injury. We’re expecting Swift to play this Sunday, but we’ll look for further updates on his status. Swift’s absence would leave rookie Kyle Monangai as Chicago’s likely lead back, with Roschon Johnson the No. 2.

Bears RB D’Andre Swift (quad) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Cowboys. He was limited in practice all week. We’ve seen nothing to suggest that Swift is in danger of missing this one, but we’ll look for more info on his status. Swift’s absence would leave Chicago’s backfield to Kyle Monangai and Roschon Johnson.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson was officially active for Sunday's game against the Lions, but you wouldn't know it from the box score. Johnson logged zero touches in his return after going inactive for the opener because of a foot injury. Rookie RB Kyle Monangai, meanwhile, carried seven times for 28 yards and caught one of three targets for 8 yards as the clear No. 2 back behind D'Andre Swift. The starter posted a 12-63-1 rushing line and caught all three of his targets for 6 yards.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (foot) is not listed on the final Week 2 injury report. He’ll make his 2025 debut vs. the Lions on Sunday. We’ll see how work is split between Johnson and RB Kyle Monangai behind lead back D’Andre Swift. HC Ben Johnson notably said this week that he’d like to get Monangai more work. Neither guy is a Week 2 fantasy option, but don’t expect Swift to play as big a role as he did in Week 1.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (foot) is inactive for tonight's game against the Vikings. That leaves RBs Kyle Monangai as the clear No. 2 RB. We'll monitor the rookie's usage, but we're expecting D'Andre Swift to control backfield work in this one.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (foot) is listed as questionable for Monday night's game vs. the Vikings. He only got in a limited practice on Saturday, so he looks legitimately iffy for the opener. RB Kyle Monangai (hamstring) is off the final injury report after putting in a full practice on Saturday. The rookie might find himself as the No. 2 RB on Monday night. He's worth stashing in deeper fantasy leagues but isn't a Week 1 option. RB D'Andre Swift should handle the majority of snaps vs. Minnesota.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson (foot) did not practice on Thursday. RB Kyle Monangai (hamstring) was limited. Both guys missed a lot of time in August and are iffy for Monday night's opener vs. the Vikings. We're expecting RB D'Andre Swift to dominate backfield snaps in that one.

The Bears have signed RB Royce Freeman. He last played for the Rams in 2023.

Bears RB Roschon Johnson did not participate in Thursday’s practice with a foot injury, according to Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune.

The first episode of the Patriots' "Forged in Foxborough" web series revealed that the team had multiple offers for the 38th overall pick in the draft. Instead of moving, though, New England stayed and selected Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson. The offers:

        • Pick 39 plus a seventh-rounder from Chicago
        • Picks 58 and 79 plus a 2026 third-rounder "possibly from Houston"

The Chicago Bears selected Rutgers RB Kyle Monangai with the 233rd pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Monangai has held down the lead back role at Rutgers for three straight seasons. With the Scarlet Knights’ offense centered on the run, Big Ten teams often stacked the box. Still, Monangai routinely succeeded, posting two straight 1,200+ rushing yard seasons and 22 total TDs. He offers little receiving upside and won’t hit a home run with long speed. (He ran a 4.60 at the NFL Combine.) But he’s a stout back (5’8, 208) who churns through contact with tons of effort. The 23-year-old adds NFL-quality vision and ball security (zero career fumbles). His college success offers some promise to make the roster as at least a short-yardage back.
