NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls it an "uphill battle" for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence (ankle) to play vs. the Browns this weekend. "I'm not saying he's not gonna play. I'm just saying he has to get a lot better very quickly in a short week to actually be out on the field" on Sunday, Rapoport adds. Fantasy owners should certainly be working under the assumption that it'll be C.J. Beathard at QB for Jacksonville this weekend. We'll keep you updated on Lawrence's status.
Jaguars HC Doug Pederson said Tuesday that QB Trevor Lawrence has a high-ankle sprain. Pederson, though, did not rule Lawrence out for this weekend's game vs. the Browns. Skill-position players usually miss multiple weeks with high-ankle sprains, but it's possible that Lawrence is back sooner -- with limited mobility, of course. Fantasy owners should still work under the assumption for now that it'll be QB C.J. Beathard starting for Jacksonville on Sunday, but we'll keep a close eye on Lawrence's status.
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has a sprained right ankle and will undergo additional testing on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Lawrence was in a walking boot after the loss to the Bengals but was able to stand at his locker, per NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. We should get an update on Lawrence's injury and timeline for return later today. QB C.J. Beathard played pretty well in relief of Lawrence on Monday, completing nine of 10 passes for 63 yards. Still, Lawrence's absence would be a significant downgrade for all of Jacksonville's skill-position players.
Jaguars TE Evan Engram finally found the end zone in Week 13, finishing Monday night’s game vs. the Bengals with a team-high 9 catches on as many targets for 82 receiving yards. His 23.2 PPR points in the contest rank second among all TEs in Week 13 and stand as Engram’s highest mark of the season. As disappointing as it was to see QB Trevor Lawrence leave with a late ankle injury, fantasy managers should keep in mind that a healthy portion of Engram’s production (4 catches and 31 yards) came on Jacksonville’s final two drives with backup C.J. Beathard under center. Engram will likely remain among our top 12 weekly TEs even if Lawrence misses time.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence put forth a tremendous outing in Week 11, completing 24 of 32 passes for 262 yards with 2 TDs vs. the Titans. He also punched in a pair of rushing scores in the contest, making for his best individual fantasy performance all season. Much of Lawrence’s success stemmed from his rapport with WR Calvin Ridley. The wideout accumulated 7 catches on 9 targets for 103 receiving yards and caught both of Lawrence’s TDs. The duo has been hot and cold in 2023, however, and the Jaguars’ upcoming schedule (second-toughest for QB matchups per our adjusted fantasy points allowed) will make both difficult to trust weekly. Fantasy managers should continue to trot Lawrence and Ridley out into lineups, but be wary of the volatile scoring floor they bring.

Christian Kirk went off for 6 grabs and 104 yards, but no other pass catcher reached 30 yards. Through nine games, Lawrence has yet to top 2 passing scores, so it’s no surprise he hasn’t reached 20 fantasy points in a game. Even beyond the tough 49ers matchup, Lawrence will face one of the most challenging rest-of-season QB schedules. He’ll remain outside QB1 range when our Rest of Way Rankings are updated on Monday.

Lawrence managed just 1 TD pass, however, his sixth game among eight with fewer than 2 TDs. Lawrence added just one rush for 10 yards. Lawrence -- who entered the week 16th among QBs in fantasy points per game (depending on your format) -- sat just 12th among QBs in ESPN scoring through Sunday's early games. He gets a Week 9 bye that should provide some welcome rest for his banged-up knee.
