Jacoby Brissett Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Commanders QB Sam Howell was benched in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Rams. He went 11 of 26 for 102 yards, one TD, and one INT, producing just seven points. QB Jacoby Brissett will finish this one out for Washington. We're guessing that Howell will be back under center next week -- but he gets brutal matchups the next two weeks vs. the Jets and 49ers. You should be looking for an alternative if you've been rolling with Howell as your fantasy starter.

Update: HC Ron Rivera said after the loss to the Rams that Howell remains the starting QB.

Commanders HC Ron Rivera named QB Sam Howell the Week 1 starter. There was never much doubt that Howell would get the nod to open the season. The question is whether he'll play well enough to keep backup QB Jacoby Brissett off the field. Howell has had a nice training camp by all accounts and looked good in Washington's preseason opener.

The Commanders are "all in" on QB Sam Howell as their 2023 starter, ESPN's John Keim writes. The team has been talking up Howell all offseason -- and then did not add a QB in the draft. Per Keim, Washington had a 2nd-round grade on Howell coming out last year but didn't take him on Day 2 because they had already made the trade for QB Carson Wentz. The Commanders couldn't pass on Howell when he slipped to Round 5, though. He made just one start last year, but the team liked how he developed as a rookie. Howell will need to hold off veteran QB Jacoby Brissett this summer, but he sounds like the heavy favorite to open the season under center. See where Howell sits in the 2023 QB Rankings.

QB Jacoby Brissett is reportedly expected to sign a deal with the Commanders. The terms of the deal are unknown as of this writing. The journeyman signal-caller adds some veteran competition into the mix to battle with incumbent QB Sam Howell. Newly-minted OC Eric Bienemy will have an effective bridge option in place should Howell not win the starting QB job outright in training camp. Brissett spent last season as the Browns' starter in the absence of suspended QB Deshaun Watson, tallying 2,608 passing yards with 12 TDs and six interceptions. Though he doesn't offer a ton of fantasy appeal, Brissett exceeded 15 fantasy points in five of his 11 starts in four-point per passing TD scoring last season. We'll have to keep an eye on how this potential training camp battle shakes out over the summer to get a good idea of how much Brissett will matter for fantasy purposes. He maintains modest superflex league appeal in dynasty leagues if nothing else.

UPDATE: Brissett's contract is a one-year deal worth up to $10 million (with $8 million guaranteed).

Browns QB Jacoby Brissett threw for 324 yards and 3 TDs in Sunday's loss to the Bills in Detroit. It was his 1st 300-yard game of the season and just his 2nd with multiple TD passes. WR Amari Cooper led the way with 8 catches for 113 yards and 2 TDs on 12 targets. WR Donovan Peoples-Jones snagged the other TD among 5 receptions for 61 yards. Brissett gets 1 more start -- at home against the Buccaneers -- before Deshaun Watson becomes available in Week 13.

The NFL is moving Sunday's Bills-Browns game to Detroit, according to The Athletic's Tim Graham. Buffalo is expected to get pounded with 4+ feet of snow over the next few days. Moving from those conditions to a dome is obviously great news for all of the fantasy players in this game.

Browns GM Andrew Berry said Wednesday that he expects QB Deshaun Watson to start once he's eligible to play, Week 13 at Houston. Duh. Cleveland didn't commit all those draft picks and dollars to sit Watson behind Jacoby Brissett. But it never hurts to get official confirmation.

Browns QB Jacoby Brissett had a forgettable passing day -- 21 of 35, 234 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, sacked once -- in Sunday's loss to the Falcons. But he added his 1st rushing TD of the season from 4 yards out midway through the 2nd quarter. It was Brissett's 1st ground score of the year, as he totaled 16 yards on 5 carries. Brissett hasn't added enough on the ground to support his 207.5 passing yards per game and become a factor in 1-QB fantasy football leagues.

The NFL -- via Judge Sue Robinson -- has suspended Browns QB Deshaun Watson for the 1st 6 games of the season for violating the personal-conduct policy. The NFLPA has said it would not challenge her ruling. The league has 3 days to file an appeal. This is obviously a positive outcome for the fantasy football outlook of Watson and the Browns offense. Expect Jacoby Brissett to start the 1st 6 contests.

Multiple outlets report that Sue Robinson is expected to issue her ruling on league discipline for Browns QB Deshaun Watson on Monday. The NFLPA has announced that it will not appeal the decision. Now we just wait to find the specific number of games.

The Browns signed former 1st-round QB Josh Rosen to a 1-year deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It’s a depth move for a Browns squad that’ll also enter camp with Jacoby Brissett and Josh Dobbs behind Deshaun Watson. News on Watson’s suspension length could come any day now.

Tony Rizzo of ESPN Cleveland says Browns QB Deshaun Watson may miss less than half the upcoming season as discipline for the mountain of sexual-misconduct allegations against him. "Right now, I'm hearing 4-6 games ... from reliable sources," Rizzo says. Watson has sunk into QB3 territory in best-ball tournament drafts on Underdog recently, with most people expecting a full-season suspension. If a mere 4-6 game ban materializes, he'd be a tournament-tilting value anywhere in that range. It's still tough to know, of course, just how much longer we'll have to wait to get the official word. So there will remain plenty of risk to Watson in the meantime.

Pro Football Network reports that the NFLPA has "concern" that the league wants to suspend Browns QB Deshaun Watson for the whole 2022 season, "if not indefinitely." We'll see what finally happens, but we sure seem to be trending toward a decision before the regular season. And anything short of a year seems likely to get the NFL vilified. If you're drafting best-ball rosters right now, it's probably best to just pass on Watson. Of course, his stock is falling everywhere. Watson's currently QB24 in Underdog drafts. So there's obviously fantasy upside to taking a shot if you so choose and he plays at all.

The Browns traded QB Case Keenum to the Bills for a 7th-round pick. Keenum replaces QB Mitchell Trubisky as QB Josh Allen's backup. Cleveland then signed QB Jacoby Brissett, who would be in line to start if QB Deshaun Watson is suspended.

Dolphins QB Jacoby Brissett injured his right knee in the 3rd quarter of Thursday night's game vs. the Ravens. That's forced QB Tua Tagovailoa onto the field, despite his left finger injury. We'll update Brissett's status when we know more.

Update: Brissett has been cleared to return, according to the NFL Network broadcast crew, but Tagovailoa is in the game.

Dolphins QB Jacoby Brissett will start tonight's game vs. the Ravens, NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reports. QB Tua Tagovailoa will be active as the backup, as he continues to deal with that fracture to the middle finger of his throwing hand. Wolfe adds that the Dolphins "hope" Tagovailoa will be back for next week's game vs. the Jets. Brissett is a lower-end QB2 in Week 10 fantasy lineups.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (finger) is listed as questionable for Thursday night's game vs. the Ravens. He'll be a game-time decision. "Plan is to make a decision on where Tua’s grip, discomfort and ability to make every throw is after pregame workout," NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe tweeted. QB Jacoby Brissett will start if Tua can't. Both guys are only in play in 2-QB fantasy leagues.

Dolphins HC Brian Flores labeled QB Tua Tagovailoa (finger) a game-time decision for Thursday night's meeting with the Ravens. Dealing with a small fracture in the middle finger of his throwing hand, Tagovailoa reportedly couldn't throw hard enough in pregame warmups this past weekend to play vs. the Texans. He'd obviously be a risky fantasy play if he starts Thursday night's game.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is dealing with a small fracture in the middle finger of his throwing hand, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. He's active but only as QB Jacoby Brissett's backup vs. the Texans today. While this isn't a long-term injury, per Schefter, Tagovailoa's availability for this Thursday night's game vs. the Ravens is "in question." We'll keep an eye on him this coming week.
