Fantasy Football News & Latest NFL Updates

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Minnesota added LB Eric Kendricks to the injury report Thursday, when he missed practice with a quad issue. We'll see whether he makes it back onto the field Friday. DE Everson Griffen also sat out with a concussion, which doesn't bode well for his Week 2 readiness. OLB Anthony Barr looks poised to miss at least 1 more game with the knee injury that kept him out of the opener. That would mean another start for Nick Vigil, assuming he's healthy enough to play. Vigil was limited Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle issue. We'll see about his game status after Friday's practice.

Titans S Amani Hooker will miss at least 3 games after the team placed him on IR this week. Hooker exited Week 1 with a foot injury, the severity of which is not yet clear. Bradley McDougald filled in for Hooker in that game and figures to start next to Kevin Byard while Hooker is out. McDougald has been a solid-to-strong IDP producer when playing full time in previous stops.

Niners LB Dre Greenlaw needs surgery for the groin injury he suffered in Sunday's win over the Lions. ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports that Greenlaw is expected to "be out into November before being reassessed." Although the 49ers hope to get him back this season, that timeline means you can go ahead and drop Greenlaw in nearly all IDP redraft leagues. Azeez Al-Shaair will fill in as the #2 LB alongside Fred Warner. Al-Shaair tallied 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 2 passes defensed in Week 1.

Colts LB Darius Leonard has missed the 1st 2 days of practice this week. The Colts listed him with an ankle issue Wednesday. Thursday found him listed with the ankle and an illness. We'll see about Leonard's participation Friday. The ankle issue kept him out of Friday practice last week, but he then carried no injury designation into the game against the Seahawks and saw full playing time.

The Jaguars released RB Duke Johnson from their practice squad. HC Urban Meyer is evidently happy with James Robinson and old pal Carlos Hyde in the backfield.

The Patriots added TE Jonnu Smith to the injury report Thursday. He was limited by a hip issue. We'll see whether that's something to worry about heading into Sunday's visit to the Jets.

Eagles TE Zach Ertz returned to a limited practice on Thursday. He's on the injury report with both "hamstring" and "rest." We're guessing Ertz will play vs. San Francisco this weekend after returning to the opener, but we'll get another update tomorrow.

Steelers TE Eric Ebron missed Thursday's practice with a hamstring. It's a new injury and has Ebron looking iffy for this weekend's game vs. the Raiders. His absence would likely mean a big boost in playing time for rookie TE Pat Freiermuth.

Jets WR Jamison Crowder has been activated from the COVID list. He should make his 2021 debut against the Patriots on Sunday. We'll see how much action Crowder gets, but he's not a Week 2 fantasy option.

Bills WR Gabriel Davis (ankle) returned to practice on Thursday. He should be fine to serve as Buffalo's #4 WR against the Dolphins this weekend.

Ravens WR Marquise Brown missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday with an ankle injury. He battled a hamstring most of August but evidently picked up this ankle issue in the opener. We'll see if he's able to practice tomorrow and then how he's listed on the final injury report.

Raiders RB Josh Jacobs (toe, ankle) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday. He played through the toe issue last week, but the ankle injury is new. Jacobs seems to be in real danger of missing Sunday's game against Pittsburgh, which would leave Kenyan Drake as Vegas' lead back. We'll get another update tomorrow.

Chargers RB Austin Ekeler isn't listed on the Week 2 injury report. He, of course, got in just 1 limited practice last week due to a hamstring injury. Ekeler ended up playing 58% of the snaps in the opener, carrying 15 times and surprisingly finishing without a single target. Expect his role to expand vs. the Cowboys this Sunday.

Raiders QB Marcus Mariota will miss "multiple weeks" with a quad injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Mariota entered on Vegas' 3rd offensive snap on Monday night, ripped off a 31-yard run -- and then hurt his quad. We won't need to worry about Mariota stealing snaps from QB Derek Carr for a while.

The Ravens promoted RB Devonta Freeman to the active roster. He gets the call over RB Le'Veon Bell, at least for this week. We're projecting the pecking order in the backfield vs. Kansas City to be Ty'Son Williams, Latavius Murray and then Freeman -- but we'll continue to keep a close eye on this backfield.

Jets WR Keelan Cole (knee) put in a limited practice on Wednesday. Cole hurt his knee in practice last Thursday and missed the opener. The Jets reportedly expect him back for Week 2, but we'll keep an eye on his progress over the next couple of days.

Bills WR Gabriel Davis (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. Davis operated as Buffalo's #4 WR in the opener but ran a route on 60% of pass plays and posted a 2-40-1 line on 5 targets. We'll see if he's able to get on the practice field tomorrow.

Raiders RB Josh Jacobs did not practice on Wednesday and is on the injury report with toe and ankle issues. Jacobs played through the toe problem on Monday night, but the ankle issue is new. We'll get another update on his status tomorrow. Backup RB Kenyan Drake needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues.

Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence broke the 5th metatarsal in his foot in Wednesday's practice, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's the famed "Jones fracture." He'll need surgery but reportedly could make it back onto the field in November. We'll keep an eye on Lawrence's progress. At this point, though, he is droppable in nearly all redraft IDP leagues. Tarell Basham looks like the next man up in Lawrence's spot. With DE Randy Gregory also out with COVID right now, Dorance Armstrong figures to start opposite Basham this Sunday against the Chargers.

Cowboys S Donovan Wilson sat out Wednesday's practice after aggravating a prior groin injury in the Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay. "It's just not where we thought it would be or hoped it would be," HC Mike McCarthy said, per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. "We're just being smart with it. He played a lot of football on Thursday, too." Wilson played 55 of Dallas' 65 defensive snaps (85%) in that game. We'll see about his availability for this Sunday against the Chargers. Jayron Kearse would likely be the fill-in if Wilson can't go.
